A Croatian company for passenger transport in urban-suburban, local, regional, and domestic and international long-distance transport with modern mobile capacities.

Why Initiative?

Due to the technological obsolescence of ticket sales solutions and the inability to sell tickets through modern sales channels (internet, mobile phone), HŽPP wants to take the initiative to develop a new solution on the latest ICT platforms that will fully meet the business requirements of Sales and Marketing.

The analysis of business needs resulted in the definition of the main requirements/goals, which the new solution should meet:

  • ticket sales through five sales channels: ticket offices, vending machines, Internet, mobile phones and sales on the train (via handheld portable devices)
  • have an interface for easy and intuitive ticket purchase by passengers via the Internet, vending machines and mobile phones
  • enable train conductors to issue, collect and register purchased tickets
  • enable customers to register (My HŽPP) via the Internet for the purchase and review of purchased tickets, receive information about timetables and/or delays and changes in traffic and other important information
  • provide support for marketing campaigns, effective management of relationships with passengers, support all activities for quality promotion of the company, as well as market research and analysis
  • have the ability for comprehensively on-line business analysis (according to different dimensions and indicators) built on information technology for multidimensional data analysis
  • have a module for calculating transport costs that takes place in cooperation with other foreign railway companies for passenger transport
  • enable connection with other applications in use in the HŽPP.

Project Risks

The analysis of the scope, complexity and the risk of possible project failure, resulted in the conclusion, that in order to reduce the risk of failure and achieve high quality of implementation, it is necessary to hire an external supplier specialized in providing services of preparation of documentation, as well as management and quality control of the execution of complex ICT projects.

Engagement of Quantum Consulting

The company Quantum Consulting was selected with the references of successfully managed projects of similar scope and complexity.

 

Quantum Consulting experts, in cooperation with HŽPP employees, prepared the technical documentation for announcing a tender for the supplier who will develop the solution. The selection of the supplier was made and the realization began.

 

In the project execution phase, the following activities were carried out by Quantum Consulting experts:

  • consulting for efficient project management,
  • mitigation of risks observed in the course of execution,
  • proposing solutions for the elimination of disputable situations between the HŽPP and supplier,
  • providing expert advice on how the best solve certain specific requirements from the technical documentation,
  • achieving the functionality of the software solution in fully compliance with the defined requirements and conditions.

Values for HŽPP

The implementation of the ” Ticketing Solution” brings the values to HŽPP:

  • by developing solutions based on state-of-the-art information technologies, HŽPP has support for ticket sales for at least 10 years or more
  • intuitive interface allows passengers to easily purchase tickets, which increases passenger satisfaction and contributes to a better perception of HŽPP as a modern passenger transport company
  • a wide range of data on sold tickets and travel lines, with the use of multidimensional analysis, enables quality daily management of sales and sales revenues, as well as an analysis of the profitability of individual transport lines
  • all the above values will come to the fore after the reconstruction of the railway infrastructure (which will enable normal transport speeds) and equipping HŽPP with new trains (which will provide passengers with the comfort of travel), will result in a very positive perception of HŽPP as a modern passenger transport company.

Conclusion

The participation of Quantum Consulting in the preparation and supervision of the project resulted in high quality and successful implementation of the ticketing solution. All the set requirements have been incorporated into the new solution, which will enable HŽPP to manage sales and marketing in a quality way, and meet the expectations of passengers for the purchase of tickets via the Internet or mobile phone.
